Enabling encryption?

Well, 128bit wireless encryption is safer than 64bit, and companies are working next to 128bit mostly now and developing 256bit surrounded by the near adjectives. For home use, I would say stick near either one, but if you want the most in safe hands wireless then be in motion with the 128bit.
Doesn't formulate much difference to be honest. Just make sure you are using one and the same at each run out - you may as well use the greatest available.
Unfortunately both are unsafe. Your neighborhood hacker can crack into WEP secured networks (both 64 and 128 bit) in approximately 15 minutes.

The safest means of access to secure you see is to use WPA encryption.
