G4 PowerBook Battery problem?

I own a G4 PowerBook which is 2 years old. I own never replaced the battery but it have always held a charge until in a minute. When I first looked at the battery smooth it read 99%. Then, I unplugged my laptop and it shut down. This happened everytime I tried to unplug the computer. Now the freestyle display has an x instead of the % charged. Anyone else out in that having Battery problems?
